The Bethany Baptist
Church was organized in 1871 at a meeting held at 77 Commerce Street. A
brick church was built on Bank Street, near Washington Street in 1878. In
November, 1905 the church moved to 267 Bank Street which was formerly occupied
by the Fairmount Baptist Church.
