The
History of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church from "History of the Newark Baptist City Mission from its origin in 1851 to its seventeenth anniversary in 1868."

The Mount Pleasant Baptist
Church was organized in November, 1867. The original chapel on Belleville Avenue,
opposite Gouverneur street was sold in 1888 and in October 1890 a new church was
built. In 1907 it was enlarged.
