According to Joseph Settani, archivist for the Jewish Historical Society of Metrowest, although the building was still being used by the Y Center Players in 1968, discussions had been underway on other possible uses of the building, indicating that its closure as a YM-YWHA had already been decided. The sale of the Chancellor 'Y' building to the Board of Education was announced in the Newark Evening News edition of October 20, 1968, but gave no additional details of the transaction.
