U. S. Army Air Warning Service

1943 or 1944
On the steps of City Hall
The US Army Air Warning Service used the top of the Krueger Brewery on Belmont
Avenue as the lookout post. Their job was to spot planes and call them in
to the center to make sure they were friendly. Watches were in four hour
shifts, 24 hours a day. After their watch the men could get a free beer in
the brewery.
