I lived on North 9th, North 11th and Roseville Avenue and went to St. Rose of Lima elementary school back in the 1950s -- graduated in 1957. the pastor was Monsignor Gormley, a gruff old guy who used to wave a blackthorn stick around when he got angry. he died shortly after I left St. Rose. One of your commentators mentioned Louis Ting-a-ling's. I remember that place as being on Bloomfield Avenue, down near the "subway" tracks and being famous for foot long hot dogs and lemon ice. Another gourmet delight guaranteed to give you "agida" was the Jimmy Buff Italian hot dog. I still make them myself down here at the Jersey shore! I believe Jimmy Buff's started downtown back before I was born (1943). When I was going to Seton Hall U, (1961-65) we used to go to a Jimmy Buff's in West Orange, up at the end of Park Ave. There is still a Jimmy Buff's out on Rte. 22 in Westfield, I believe.
