I was born, married, delivered 5 of my 6 children while living in that great place (Newark).  My first memory that comes to mind is St. Augustine's Church and School.  I graduated from there in 1937.  It was such a beautiful church; I particularly remember the beautiful grotto that was to the left of the Church building.  I wonder if it is still there and in tact.

        Several years back that Church had a reunion that I believe was held at Thomm's Restaurant (?sp) and it was great to see many former parishioners and friends.

        Another memory is of the Sussex Avenue Armory -- we would go there to watch the soldiers march and drill.  Also, in February 1943 my husband boarded a bus from in front of the Armory and went off to serve for 2 1/2 years in WW!!.  I was so proud of his accepting his call to serve and he went unhesitatingly.  At that time, we were married just 1 year and I latter found that I was a little more than a month pregnant with our first daughter.

        You mention Weequahic Diner -- when I mentioned this to Harry his first comment was that it was THE place to go.
