Beth Israel Hospital, on West Kinney Street at High Street in Newark's old Third Ward. The 84-bed brick hospital was opened in 1908, three years after the start of a fund-drive that attracted 833 contributions. Most donations were small, with the largest ranging from $50 to $100. It was the first hospital in the area that welcomed all Jewish doctors. At the time, Newark's Jewish population was nearing 50,000.
