1. Heard died March 16, 2004 at the age of 67. In addition to writing five novels, he had served as a columnist and speech consultant for Newark Mayor Kenneth Gibson in the 1970s and 1980s. He had also taught creative writing at Rutgers University and at Fresno State University in California. He had also appeared in several motion picture films. * * * |
