1.  Rabbi Charles I. Hoffman joined Oheb Shalom while it was still in the old Prince Street building in 1906.

    I recall him as a "Lincolnesque" figure.  He was 6 feet, 2 inches tall, and thin with sharp features, a black spade beard, and a deep mellifluous voice that rolled out the Hebrew prayers with awesome authority.

    On Saturday mornings, he could be seen walking over High Street to the Temple in high silk black hat, and wearing a black cutaway coat.
