An update on Anthony Wereta from Nat Bodian

Today I spoke to Tony Wereta, who wrote that terrific Old Newark memory: "Living Inside the Racetrack: A Weequahic Park Memory."

Tony is now 85 and ailing, healthwise.  Today he told me he had to surrender his driver's license as he is no longer able to drive.

He is housebound, except for short trips to nearby stores.  Mostly, food is brought to his home.

Tony was a Seabee out in the Pacific during the worst of the war with Japan, helping build airplane runways, building structures and bridges essential for the war.

Such was the urgency of his work there that he worked from Midnight to Noon with a lunch break and another shift took over for the other 12 hours.

Today, he is also a fulltime caretaker for his wife who is in worse shape than he is.  They graduated from Central High together in 1936, and are married over 62 years.

I think a cheer-up message to Tony Wereta would be welcome and appreciated at 14 Brookwood Drive, Clifton 07012... or email any message to me, Nat Bodian, for Tony and I will see that he gets it.

        Let's give Tony a boost.
