I worked in an urban
gardening program in Newark from 1978-83, and I coordinated several gardens in
Newark housing projects. One of our largest and most successful was at the
Scudder Homes project, off Springfield Ave. We built a geodesic dome there
and grew plants throughout the winter. It was just west of St. Benedict's,
on land that had been cleared after the riots. We had a huge area to work
with.
